Mouse stops working and need to switch to touchpad

There are few reasons why your wireless mouse keeps on disconnecting to your desktop or laptop. It’s either software is not properly updated or settings in your system must be tweaked properly. Here are some of the easiest and best resolution for your problem.

1.  In your Desktop look for My Computer/ Computer >>> Right-click >>> and select Manage.

2.  New window (Computer Management) will appear. Select Device Manager.

3.  In the main screen you’ll see all hardware installed in your computer. “Asterisk” symbol in any of your hardware means proper software installation and upgrade needed.

4.  Drop down the option with the “right-directional arrow” before the device (Bluetooth or USB). Select “USB Root Hub 1-2-3-4-etc” right-click and select Properties. New Window will appear and look for the tab “Power Management.” “Un-tick” the box that says “Allow the computer to turn off this device….” Click “OK” button and do this with other hardware that you’re having problems with.

5.  Restart computer and check if your mouse will do the same problem again.

If this doesn’t work open again Device Manager.

1.  Drop down the option for Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the hardware that will appear and then select “Update Driver and Software.” This option will work especially with Windows 8 since most of the hardware and devices are not configured in the first installation of your operating system.

It is advisable to follow these different steps to solve your issue,

• Plug the USB receiver to another port and check for the functionality.
• Remove the mouse battery, keep for a short time, reinsert the battery or install a fresh battery.
• Check whether the opening at the bottom of the mouse is clear.
• Run (win+R) > type ”devmgmt.msc”  (or open device manager and go to mice and pointing devices ) > wireless mouse > scan for hardware changes

If that keeps happening every time the mouse went to idle, try transferring the mouse cable to another USB port. If this doesn’t work, disable power management on the USB port to prevent Windows from turning off power to the device when it becomes idle. But normally, it will return back to operation once you move the mouse again. Click “Start” then right-click “Computer” and select “Manage”.

In “Computer Management” window, select “Device Manager” on the left pane. On the center pane, expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers”. Now, you will see several “USB Root Hub” listed on this section. Double-click one “USB Root Hub” to open the properties. In the “Properties” dialog, go to “Power Management” tab and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

Click “OK” then do it again on every listed “USB Root Hub”. When you are finished, restart the computer. After booting, any device that you connect to the USB port will continue to operate even when the system is idle. Windows will not disable or turn off the device during idle mode.
