Error with iPhone OS 4.0 update for 3G

I have been struggling with my phone for about 3 hours now. It is on a continuous loop, where the screen is black with the Apple logo and a bar that loads about to 20% before restarting itself and cycling again. 

If I manually restart it by holding down the home button and button on the top of the phone, as well as restarting iTunes, I receive this message, "iTunes was interrupted while restoring the contents of the iPhone. Would you like to restore this iPhone again now?" With the options to 'cancel' 'delete back-up' or 'continue restore.'

 

For a while the bar began to load further on my phone (up to about 50%) as well as on my computer screen, but as it only would load a little bit I have become too frustrated to get it to load much further than half a centimeter each time. 

 

Does anyone have any suggestions? My phone does not show up on the side bar of my iTunes and seems like it isn't really even doing anything.

 

Help! I just want to be able to use my phone again!

Error with iPhone OS 4.0 update for 3G

Hi,

If you are using a Macintosh computer, I recommend that you update the version of the operating system. If its running Leopard or snow leopard it needs to have 10.5.8 or 10.6.8.

How to update:

• Click the Apple icon located on the upper left corner of the screen;
• Click Software Update;
• Let it search for any update available and as much as possible, update everything in the list.
• After the firmware update, we need to make sure that the latest version of iTunes is also updated. It's much better if you download the software directly from Apple's website.
• Once everything is updated, we need to restart the computer and once the screen turns black you need to immediately press and hold down the keys: Command – Option – P – R.
• You have to wait for the third Chime before you let go of the Keys, that will Zap the PRAM which usually resolves minor issues.
• After zapping the PRAM, run iTunes and reconnect your iPhone then try to Restore to Factory settings and Update iPhone
