Techyv,
I’m using Windows NT as the guest operating system. It is fully supported by VMware Convertor 3.
However, when I’m trying to do a hot clone a Windows Physical machine the import fails with the above error message.
The source machine is using Windows Software mirroring. There is a workaround to break the software mirror before running the conversation. I do not know how to do this.
Please help.
Error: Unable to determine Guest Operating System

Unable to determine Guest Operating System
Hi, There is a person to whom I know,he has worked on Dell PE2400 which is running WINNT 4.0 SP6. Its server has two hardware raids set up and tried about following methods.  Firstly install the VMware Converter 3.01 on to the  physical server, reboot it, stop any unnecessary services  and try to P2V to ESX server – it tops with error "Unable to determine Guest Operating system". In the second method Boot off Cold Clone CD and Connect to ESX server, Start the conversion of  P2V,  it will crashes out at the rate of 2% with "Error: Unknown error returned by VMware converter agent". Thirdly please use Shadow which Protect to take the images of each drive and try to opening the images by using the VMware converter. Finally tried restoring the Shadow Protect images onto a virtual disk which was partitioned very  correctly. This will give you  a Inaccessible boot device message which are selected as the VMware SCSI driver istant loaded into the OS. But I had to try.
