Chrome Book is gaining popularity these days and I also have one. I mainly use MS Word on my PC for various works but I want MS Office to be in Chrome Book. Is there a way to get MS Word on Google's notebook? Is there any compatibility layer like Wine?
Where can I get a ChromeBook with support for MS Word?
Actually, if you are only curious about Microsoft Office if you can install it or not on Chromebook, I guess the answer is a clear no. Chromebook does not support applications like Microsoft Office, iTunes, or even Skype. But there is an alternative to Microsoft Office if you really need to use it.
The answer is Google Drive. The difference between the 2 is that with Microsoft Office, it is not free and kind of expensive. Before you can use it, you need to purchase it first and then install it on your computer. But with Google Drive, it is totally free and you don’t need to install anything on your computer.
All applications are accessed on the cloud and you only need your Google account or Gmail account to have full access. With Google Drive, you can create files like documents and worksheets which are similar to Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel. If you have a Microsoft Office Word document, you can upload it to your Google Drive and use Google Docs to open and edit the file.
For Microsoft Office Excel documents, you can use Google Sheets to open and edit the files. For files created under Microsoft Office PowerPoint, you can use Google Slides. To access your Google Drive, visit My Drive on Google Drive. You need to sign in using your Gmail account to access your Google Drive.
