If you are into a business you always consider your total cost of ownership (TCO) for your investment. Now, if you have about 50 computers, why then buy a server which is very costly when you can just connect all your computers into 1 personal computer where you can just load a server software?
Why buy a server when you can just connect your computers?
Hello Gerald,
If you want to save time and few dollars you can surely go for the computers with server software pre-installed. They are easier to set up as the software is already there, and you might even decide you don’t need to pay an IT professional to come in and help you install the server since it’s relatively turnkey. But such types of servers are recommended only for small business.
In case of large business infrastructure you will need many servers as application server, communication server, database server, fax server etc. as stress on your computing infrastructure is usually expected since it comes from growth. And to make sure nothing gets in the way of that growth, you’ll likely want to buy a server. It might be one of the best things you can do right now to streamline your operations and set the stage for future success

Hi Gerald,
What you are suggesting makes sense when you look at it from the cost-wise point of view. But I am trying to imagine how you are going to ensure that these fifty computers on the network offer enough storage space for the information you will be using on the network, and how much it is going to cost you to buy computers that have enough storage space for the all information on the network.
A server will help you cut on the cost that you could have incurred in buying computers that have a lot of storage space that will be needed for backup since you simply backup all the data from all the computers on the server. A server is also important when it comes to security of the information. In case the computers fail, you can always retrieve the information from the server.
Hope this helps.
