My pen drive is not getting formatted or ejected.

When I try to format my pen drive it is not getting formatted. On the other hand when I want to eject from the system trey it says it is open by another software.

My pen drive is not getting formatted or ejected.

 

Basically this kind of problem happens when your pen drive or file of a pen drive I mean a file that exist in your pen drive open with another application or something else. So make sure that the pen drive is not open with another application otherwise this is happening for any kind of virus. As most of the virus open removable disk in the background it seems like the pen drive is not open but actually the pen drive is open with the virus. So use antivirus to scan your hole computer including your removal disk. You will found virus then remove them then try to format the pen drive again.

Hi Conilive,
Try ejecting the pen drive (not the right procedure but in this case you will have to do that) without clicking on the safely remove button, then plug it in again. Try formatting now and see if it works.
Otherwise check your pen drive to ensure that it does not have right protection lock on. If there is then unlock it. Also check to ensure that you have not opened any files currently from the pen drive.
Another possible cause of that could be the computer you are using. May be the read and write feature has been disabled hence you cannot format with it.
