Could not execute the external program

I am using yahoo messenger from many days in my PC. From last couple of days it's not working. I have re-installed it, then I un-installed and installed it. But still the same. In the first dialog box after installation it says "the application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem".

Then it shows an error message "could not execute the external program "c:…" ".

I have tried several times but every time it`s failing. I have installed it directly from the internet and even downloaded the backup file from a website. But it didn’t work.

Hi there,

 

Unfortunately, there is no much help with your problem but to do a nice, fresh and clean install of the messenger.

 

Firstly remove the old messenger completely. Use the registry cleaner to remove any leftovers and once you're sure it's all clean restart your computer. Download the messenger from the trusted website, preferably from the original source (Yahoo!) and run the installation.
