I have heard people saying that they have a network speed of 54 megabyte per second and on observing more carefully I saw the speed marked as 54 Mb/s and when I test the speed on my home it says four MB/s what is the actual difference in among mega byte per second and mega bits per second? Are they the same? one MB/s is fast or one Mb/s is fast? Please answer my question I want to know it.
Difference between MB/s and Mb/s
Happy to support you!
Actually, this is a very simple fact to understand.
In data rate calculations related to the information and communication technology,
-
8 bits = 1 byte
-
1000 bytes = 8 kilobits (kb) = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
-
1000 Kilobytes (KB) = 8 megabits (Mb) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
But 1 megabyte per second (MB/s) is a unit of data transfer rate equal to:
-
8,000,000 bits per second
-
1,000,000 bytes per second
-
1,000 kilobytes per second
-
8 megabits per second
Therefore, it is clear that 1 MBps is 8 times faster than 1 Mbps.
However, in general, Mb is used as a transfer measurement, while MB is used as a storage measurement.
