In my opinion both iPhone and Android have their advantages and disadvantages. And also depends to the user what really features and design they want that’s why choosing IPhone Vs. Android will still up to the persons personal choice.

Hi,

Jailbreaking is to iPhone as "rooting" is to Android.

Once you do so, "you break the device’s metaphorical walls in order to gain better access to the device and it’s operating system to allow better end user control of it’s functions.

The major differences in jailbreaking/rooting:

1. First Party Support (Apple doesn't want you to jailbreak your device. If it is, then don't bring it to an Apple Store. Google (for Android) on the other hand doesn't care if your device is rooted or not.

2. Recoverability (If your iPhone is jailbroken, its easy to un-jailbreak. Un-rooting an Android phone is not as simple. If you don't do the process perfectly, you might end up with an unresponsive phone).

Here are some key differences between jailbreaking an Android OS and an iOS

  • The process for jailbreaking the Android OS is called rooting.
  • Jailbreaking is used only for iOS devices.
  • That's because Android is an open OS while iOS is a closed one.
  • What that means is that Apple doesn't let anyone mingle with the code, so smartphone manufacturers aren't allowed to touch it and modified it to suit their needs, neither can end-users.
  • Google however made their mobile OS open to everyone and it can be modified by manufacturers as well as end-users.
  • Thus, you are not actually jailbreaking your android OS, because you're not limited by the OS, you're rooting it if you want to get rid of the apps and settings the smartphone manufacturer has set by default.
  • Rooting an Android OS will cause it to reach the default stage when it came out of Google development.
  • You are, however, jailbreaking your iPhone because you want to get that freedom the Android users have, and not be limited by Apple, regarding what you can or can't do on your phone.

Regarding your second question:

  • Apple has started this new fashion with touch smartphones, because they brought it to a new level, especially with the help of the AppStore
  • Since the release of the first iPhone, Apple fan boys have emerged and they maintained their desire for the next 5 generations. Year by year more have turned their head towards the iPhone just because it was one step ahead of Android and the Android Market.
  • Don't get me wrong, Android has caught up, but the mentality hasn't changed just because the iPhone buyers have become fan-boys or it's just too much of a hassle to switch to a new OS once you've bought so many apps and invested so much money.
  • Now, if you've never owned neither of them, you'll have to think which one will it benefit you the most.
  • Do you want to be limited by Apple and accept their restrictions? If not, get an Android phone or jailbreak your iPhone. The latter will, however, have an effect on overall security of your smartphone.

We call jailbreaking on Android as "Rooting" Android phones. Android is an open source OS and can allow the users to install more than just the 3rd party applications. Side loading or installing 3rd party apps on your out of the box android, allows the user to install themes and install applications directly from your SD card or the internal memory of the Android devices. Rooting gives the user an access to more or less the entire OS.

Users can completely remove the OS and replace it with user made OS with tweaks and some improvements or ROMS. You can even setup your desired settings such as the speed of the processor. With custom kernel, you can over clock or under clock the speed of your processor on your Android device. Users can also access the flash memory chip.

Jailbreaking on IOS devices allows the user to do things on their iPhones that they can't do when it is not jailbroke. Jailbreaking is a method of removing restrictions and limitations on your iPhone such as downloading apps that are not in the App store, use themes and extensions that is not supported by Apple.

This does not affect the standard functions of your iPhone, you can still access iTunes and App Store.
