I am having a problem with Windows XP Operating System. It shows an error message during start up. I tried XP recovery console to fix it up but could not fix it. The DISKPART Command Line shows three partitions where the Partition C is displayed as 'unknown' and other two partitions are in correct configuration. How do I recover Drive-C by retaining previous data in the drive? Your suggestion/s would be highly appreciated.

How do I recover Drive-C by retaining previous data in the drive
Hallo Cadey,
Has this error been going on for a long time or it just started occurring lately? If it started occurring lately, then its cause could be some changes that you made to the changes in the recent past for instance installing software, uninstalling software or maybe installing program updates.
In that case I will advice that you run the system restore utility so that to remove any changes that you made that causing the problems and restore the system to a point before it started having the problems that it is having now.

How do I recover Drive-C by retaining previous data in the drive
Dear Cady,
First thing you can do is to recover your windows files by system recovery point just boot your system in safe mode by pressing F8 key several times while booting to your window and you will see many options on screen you need to go to safe mode once the window is loaded then you will see at starting screen that will prompt you to go to a recovery point you need to set a recovery point there and you will be able to see your files again. If it does not works then follow the same step by going through the file and registry configuration while booting pick this options while in F8 options and your window will be configured if there is a problem in your windows files. If the problem remains then there is some virus in your computer try to solve it by running a full virus scan to your computer.

If you run diskpart and it shows drive C as “unknown” then the problem can be from the partition of the system drive or drive C. First, try if you can boot your computer in Safe Mode. Restart your computer then press F8 before the Windows logo appears. In “Advanced Boot Options” screen, select “Safe Mode” then hit Enter twice.
Once in Safe Mode, click “Start,” “All Programs,” “Accessories,” and then “Command Prompt” or just press the WINDOWS button + R then type without quotes “cmd” then hit Enter. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. When you are prompted to insert the Windows CD, insert your Windows setup CD on your optical drive then continue.
When it is complete, type without quotes “exit” then hit Enter. Restart your computer and boot normally. See if this works. If this doesn’t work, you probably need to reinstall Microsoft Windows because the problem is with the partition. When installing Windows, when you reach the part to select which partition to install Windows, select the partition where Windows was originally installed then delete it.
Once it is deleted, create a new partition and then install Windows on that partition. This should fix the problem.
