I am using Windows 8 and it is driving me crazy that there is no start button. I thought that Windows 8 would have it but it doesn't. I am sure there is a way for me to get a start button, but I would appreciate a small walk-through of what I need to do in order to accomplish this. Thank you.

Actually, in Windows 8, the start button & start menu has been replaced by the new start screen feature. So, you can do all the tasks done with  the start button and start menu of windows 7 or prior, with the start screen of windows 8.
It is possible to simply access the start screen by pressing the windows logo key on the key board or with a mouse click on the bottom left corner of the screen.

Further more, if you badly want the start button on Windows 8 as well, you can try the alternatives like creating a Windows Start Menu Toolbar or installing a third-party add-on.
