Good day!
My computer runs on Windows 8, I am experiencing problems with Windows Media Player. I am unable to use it to watch movies. It functions on and off. What might be the cause?
Please help me… Thanks…
Having problem with windows media player
Windows Media Player doesn't have built-in codec. CODEC is a program that converts a file from one format to another to be readible by the player. You can download and install it to your computer or you will use alternative player for movies which can be useful to you like VLC & MPlayer, tend to have internal codecs built inside them. You can download it for free!

Having problem with windows media player
Hi Godfrey,
There are several reasons why videos won’t play on Windows Media Player. First thing to look at is the file type. Windows Media Player supports the following file types: .wmv, .avi, .wm, .dvr-ms, .asf, .mpeg, .mpe, .mpg, .mp2, .m1v, and .mpv2. If the video file type you were trying to watch is not any of these file types, you may need to convert to either wmv or mpeg (the most common thing I do). There are freeware converters available for download that are 100% malware safe. Enjoy watching!

If that is what’s happening with Windows Media Player every time you use it, try disabling it and then enable it back. It’s like uninstalling and reinstalling an application but since its Windows Media Player, it can’t be uninstalled because it is built-in with the operating system. The Windows Media Player is the default media player in all versions of Microsoft Windows.
To disable it from the operating system, click “Start” then in the search bar type without quotes “control panel” and then click “Control Panel” from the result. Next, go to “Programs,” “Program and Features,” and click “Uninstall a Program.”
On the top left of the screen, select “Turn Windows Features On or Off” then on the next screen, scroll down and look for “Windows Media Player” and then uncheck it. If you don’t see Windows Media Player, check under “Media Features.”
After unchecking Windows Media Player, you may receive something like “Turning Off Windows Media Player Might Affect Other Windows Features And Programs Installed On Your Computer Including Default Settings. Do You Want To Continue?” Here, click “Yes” then “OK.” Wait until the process is complete then click “OK.” If you are prompted to restart the computer, click “Restart Now.” And that’s it.
Windows Media Player is now disabled from the system. After this, repeat the same steps then check “Windows Media Player” to enable it back. Try playing a video and see if it works.
