Why is it that re-compacting and relocation of files should be avoided?

Please give me at least three (3) reasons why is it that re-compacting and relocation of files should be avoided? How are we going to eliminate fragmentation on a storage device if we will not use re-t25 compaction of the information? Is there another method of file relocation? If so, how? Please explain thoroughly, I want to be clarified on the issue. Thank you.

Why is it that re-compacting and relocation of files should be avoided?

Hello Jerwin,

Re-compacting and relocation of files should be avoided because of various reasons. I have listed for you some of the reasons below and I hope that they will help you:

• The first reason has to with the time factor; the time cost for re-compacting and reallocating the files tend to be too high hence a reason to avoid that.
• Another reason for that is because the system operation cannot be permitted generally to carry out such a process.
• In the case of sequential files,  which are generally used in the process of backing up, there will not be much fragmentation when it comes to direct files access, and thus that means that any new space that is free can merge with the fragmentation.
