Software applications called BOTS are used to boost the productivity and help us watch the others are up to. They can also be programmed by us. They are basically software applications designed to carry out automated tasks. Such programs have been incorporated in many devices as well as computers. For example, Siri in IPhones is one such Bot Program.

I don’t think software bots are new. They exist for a long time and were living on IRC channels, crawling the web immediately after the internet started, or processing resumes for big companies’ HR department back in the 90s. A software bot is also known as internet bot, a web robot, WWW robot, or simply a bot.

It is a software application that performs automated tasks or scripts over the internet. Normally, the tasks that bots carry out are both structurally repetitive and simple. And they execute it at a much higher rate than a human would possibly do.

The biggest application of bots is in web spidering or web crawling where an automated script obtains, examines, and files the information from web servers at a rate many times faster than a human. There are certain bots that are capable of communicating with other users of internet-based services such as IM or instant messaging, IRC or Internet Relay Chat, or another web interface like Twitterbots and Facebook Bots.

An additional and nastier application of bots is the coordination and operation of an automated attack on networked computers like the DoS attack, for instance, by a botnet.
