My iPad doesn’t have 3G. Is it possible to use it GPS instead?

How about adding an external modem for wireless connection so I can still be online even on areas that don’t have wireless networks?

Apple iPad 2 connectivity question

Hello there!

If you are trying to use the iPad 2 maps app, you need to have a WiFi so you will be able to download the information on the maps.

But since the GPS on the iPad 2 is independent from 3G, you can still use it with third party app like TomTom and the likes.

The thing that will not work on this app is the assisted GPS functions because that requires 3G.

Just remember that built-in maps on the iPad 2 require 3G or WiFi and in order for you to use the iPad GPS without turning on your 3G is by downloading third party app.

Hello Carl Butch,

The iPad that I am sure it has the GPS is the 3G model. 

The iPad 3G models have the assisted GPS is included in their WiFi, but Apple uses the plus-sign in WiFi + 3G model”, this means that is a high-end, 3G model

Therefore the 3G model iPads haveGPS and but the WiFi models do not have the GPS, and therefore you will have to figure out in which category yours falls and then see if it can provide you with the GPS and WiFi capabilities or you will be privileged to use only one service.
