Listed below are software that can be used to build web pages; written in a text editor. Communication with remote servers where you want to upload your site is an added bonus that HTML editors provide.
HTML PAD 2010
This HTML editor includes basic features like a flexible preview and HTML code validation. HTML PAD 2010 is a shareware which is supported by Windows XP, 2000, 2003, Vista, and Windows 7. The software can also handle CSS, PHP, XML and ASP (Template insertion, code browsing, etc.).This application also includes publishing capabilities which makes created content instantly uploaded to a remote FTP directory. HTML PAD is a user-friendly application, extremely flexible, and cost effective. As a newbie HTML editor, HTML PAD 2010 is a buy!
Zend Studio
I’ll be talking about the problems this HTML editor has. Users of Zend Studios constantly complain about the sluggish interface and awful loading times. One or two clicks and you can go to sleep waiting for the application to respond to your input. Along with that, Zend Studio has no tag editor and the FTP system used by this application is inept. Keeping all these things in mind, Zend Studio is nowhere as better as Dreamweaver. However, there are some upsides as well. It has a good code completion system along with a good code formatter. End bracket highlighting helps a lot and the font used in the editor is quite legible.
Netbeans
Netbeans has code-assist feature supporting PHP functions, classes, and custom functions. Another quality of this application is that it allows you to easily rename of classes/variables; it supports snippets and code-folding. The features offered are more or less the same as offered in Zend Studio but the difference is that they work! The downsides of this software aren’t many but its support for return is rickety. Single return values are supported fine but when there is more than one, it doesn’t work. Netbeans also provides links to PHP manual and the code-folding feature is really impressive.
HTML Kit
This editor is fully featured and supports HTML, XHTML, and XML for formatting, editing and publishing web pages. Its features, such as Error detection, suggestions, etc. are very helpful for beginners. Other tools are aimed at more experienced users and require a thorough understanding of the mark-up language. Color code indicators, pads for copy pasting, HTML kit lags in the field of font, and interface are some of the said features. HTML kit’s photo preview is an impressive feature and a time saver. Considering the Ease of use and Features of this application, it receives a healthy 7/10.
Aptana Studio
This software provides full support for HTML, Java script, and CSS; and it’s free! Supported platforms include PHP, Python, Ruby on rails, Nokia, AJAX, and iPhone web applications. Distinctive features include Cloud Hosting, FTP support, and adding modules separately. All Dreamweaver users can easily switch to Aptana Studio. The software also has a tag suggestion, auto-completion, and explanation. Split view helps in coding HTML and is a very helpful feature of Aptana Studio. Output of the drafted code can be instantly seen as the software provides a very user-friendly and dynamic interface for HTML coders.
