Can I install OSX using the leopard disk?

I bought a new hard drive since the previous one technically failed. But I can’t use it yet because I don’t have my leopard disk. My files are on my backup drive through Time Machine. Since I still have my backup files, can I install OSX using that backup drive?

Hello Sambitory,

If you have enough space on the drive that you have used to backup your data, then you can still use it to run OSX. But you have to consider the space that OSX is likely to take on that disk so as it may not ending being too slow, and also consider the other applications that you may need to install and use with the operating system.

But if the drive is full, you can just choose to connect the new drive that you have, assuming that it has enough space partition it then store the backup files one partition and then install the OSX operating system on the other. You can still maintain the back up data on the old drive.
