I have several files in my PC that I no longer need. But I was skeptical which one to delete or not. I am looking for a free software that can help me delete the unwanted files automatically.

Hello Priyagupta,

I will suggest that you first use the disk cleanup utility to empty any unwanted files or queued error messages that you may not be needing now on the computer. To access disk clean up, use the following procedure:

  • On your computer, click on start and then type disk clean up in the blank search field, and then press enter.
  • When the disk clean up window opens, just click on ok and then check the files that you want deleted in the next window that will appear.

Otherwise, the third party program that I will recommend for the clean up is called CCleaner. You can get it for free from the internet, just download it and install and then use it to empty any files you may not need..

If you are referring to system files or registry entries or temporary files in your machine, then you can just download and use CCleaner. You can get it here:

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

This is a free software that scans your computer for unwanted files. Most of these are preconfigured searches like installation files that are not anymore associated with other applications, temporary files stored on a given folder (location of these files is predetermined by Windows and this software will just look for the files in that folder and may also look for the files with a file extension referring to a temporary file) and unused registry entries. As for personal files, you'll just have to pick them out yourself, you should be able to decide which personal files you don't use anymore.
