Problem with reformatting Windows Vista

I got an HP PAVILION DESKTOP with a Windows Vista – Home Basic Operating System, and I’ve used it for 2 years. It was good before but lately I’m really pissed off with its crap performance! It has an Intel Core Duo processor, installed RAM 1.00 GB, 32 bit Operating System. I am just using my computer for surfing the net and playing games like Solitaire but I really don’t know why is it that so slow.

I tried calling the attention of my friends who has knowledge about computers and they told me that it is because of the Windows Vista issue, that it really has a slow performance and there are a lot of complaints about it. So, I decided to change my Operating System by upgrading it from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate.

But, when I tried to follow the procedures how to reformat and install the new Operating System it gives me the weirdest thing I’ve ever encountered. I’d already check the system compatibility of my computer. I inserted the Windows 7 disk in my DVD drive and tried to reboot my computer.

I tried pressing the F11 key but it just precedes to the Windows Startup, so I tried the other keys and still keeps proceeding to the startup. I’m definitely sure that I’m doing it correctly but still, there’s no change. Please let me know what to do, I badly needed help. Just reply to this thread as I will be watching this post.

Hi HayleyClaire,

If you are sure that your laptop can handle the Windows 7 OS then you might want to check the format of your Windows 7 installer. Try checking the file extension, it should be ".ISO" and it should be bootable. You can use PowerISO or ImgBurn to make a bootable ISO.

You can download PowerISO here:

You can download ImgBurn here:

Once installed, just open the Windows 7 ISO file in the program you choose and then look for the option to burn the image/ISO file. Then restart your desktop again. Your desktop should recognize the CD/DVD and will show you a message like "Press any key to boot from CD or device.." after pressing any key, it should lead you to the installation page for Windows 7.

Hi,

I know what you are trying to do you keep hitting the F11 to show the boot selecting device option right? But unfortunately it just continues to load your current OS.

Looks like you know how to install an OS, so the only concern here is the boot problem.

Well all you have to do is go to your CMOS set up, I think you have to press the F1 or F2, if you manage to go in the CMOS setup, just choose advanced bios setup or features, and make your CD or DVD to be first boot make your HDD be second boot, and then Esc, and choose Save & Exit Setup, choose Yes and it will restart your PC and the message will display saying press any key to boot from CD or DVD, just hit enter and you will go now to the installation of the Windows.

BIOS Features Boot Device Boot from CD

Make sure the windows 7 installation disk is in the DVD drive.

Hope this info can help.
