Insights on obtaining a job position

Hello to all! I am a college graduate with no working experience except for doing some freelance jobs online. I worked as a contractual virtual programmer. I want to know now if my experience on doing online jobs will be enough to apply for a good job position? And also, aside from my on-the-job trainings during college, what other ways can I do to gain a working experience? I just need to know because I've been applying for a long time now but most companies are looking for a well-experienced employee for an entry-level. I mean, how can I even gain an experience when they don't give me a chance? Can someone please help me and give me some insights on obtaining a good job position in the field of Software Development and Testing. Thank you.

Freelance online projects can be used as work experience information in your resume since you are actually doing the job and learning from it. If you can provide samples to the prospective employers, like perhaps the websites you designed or coded, then they would be able to verify it. They would also provide you with a test or perhaps ask you to code something on the spot while you are being interviewed. Aside from freelance projects, you should try applying for base level jobs that absolutely don't require experience just so you can add a company employment history in your resume.

Hello Shahara,

What you are doing, I mean freelance jobs online, is really a good thing for you to get some financial support. And I think the knowledge that you get when doing the freelance jobs may be applicable when you want to apply for other online freelance jobs since sometimes the employer wants to know if you have done online jobs before and how you were about it.

But when it comes to being employed by a company, I will suggest that you allow yourself the chance to start out small. Look for an internship for example, of course it should be related to your area of profession, even if they pay you little cash or sometimes they may not pay you at all, just stay focused on getting experience. Once you have worked as an intern for about 3 months you can then start applying for jobs and make sure that you quote the internship as part of the work experience you have gained because every company wants someone who is experienced. You might be even surprised to find that you are hired at the place where you do the internship as long as you work diligently.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am also a college graduate without working experience. I believe that  “A Truly Educated person never Graduate.”

Regarding on your problem, I would suggest that you should go on post graduate studies or seek some trainings or seminars for you to be able to expand more your knowledge and skills in your chosen field. In addition, you could also continue your freelance online job and don't be afraid to try new things because this may help you in finding a good job position later on.
