I'm (re)installing Ubuntu on my Toshiba NB100 netbook (Intel Atom, 120GB HD, 2GB RAM). Already have a partition I call "Stuff" with all my media and docs. Will be deleting the one I had Win7 on (making it the swap), and then there is a recovery one.
How big a swap partition should I create?
Required Maximum Size of a Partition
Dear Abdiel,
Swap memory is required when a program you are running takes lot of memory.
When you hibernate, hibernation feature actually copies the contents of RAM to the swap/virtual memory so that you can reload it again when you log in and you found it intact and ready to use.
Therefore, your swap memory shall be either equal to or double the size of your RAM.
In my view, therefore, you need 4 GB swap partition as your RAM memory is having 2 GB space.
