Hello Ralph,

This is what we need to do, you must first uninstall your webcam's drivers and reinstall it in compatibility mode. You can uninstall it from your device manager. This is a step by step process on how to do it and I am going to provide a concise explanation below. You can download your webcam's drivers here. It should work after you this.

Uninstalling from device manager:

  1. Press Windows key
  2. Highlight computer and right click
  3. Select Manage
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Select and double click Device
  6. Under the drivers tan click uninstall

Sincerely,

Luz M Terry

If your laptop’s camera stopped working after changing or upgrading the operating system, you simply need to update the camera’s driver. That problem happens because the existing driver or the driver for the camera that came with your laptop is not compatible with the new operating system, Microsoft Windows 8. An update to the driver should fix the problem.

If your laptop came with a CD that contains different drivers, check if there’s a driver for the camera that works with Windows 8. If no driver is available for Windows 8, you can always download an updated driver from the laptop manufacturer’s website. Since you have a Gateway laptop, go to Gateway Drivers & Downloads. Here, enter your laptop’s model number or serial number then hit search.

You can find it printed on the side or bottom of your machine. When you located your product, click it to go to the download page. In there, select your correct operating system to display the correct software for your machine. Download and install all available drivers for your laptop.

On the other hand, if your laptop or the page doesn’t have an updated driver for Windows 8, you can download ManyCam as an alternative to your camera’s driver. This should fix the problem. The latest ManyCam software supports Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. It requires Intel Core i3 or faster processor, 2 GB RAM, and an updated video card driver.

Since you have Windows 8, you need to update your operating system to the latest Service Pack, Windows 8.1.
