Cannot detect mpg files after installing mpg codec for Mac
I’m not sure why you are having this problem with your mpg video since you are using QuickTime Player. This application can also play videos in MPG format and you don’t have to install any more codec just to be able to play the video. When you install QuickTime all the required codec for the video formats it support will be installed automatically.
If you are sure that there is something wrong with your program, you may want to do a clean installation of the program again to fix any corrupted files that may be present in the system. Uninstall QuickTime then restart your computer when asked. After booting, check your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. Install QuickTime again then check if this fixes the problem.
It’s also possible that you are still using an older version of QuickTime. Try upgrading your present version to QuickTime 7.7.1 which you can download from Apple — QuickTime — Download QuickTime 7.
Cannot detect mpg files after installing mpg codec for Mac
If you’re on Mac and your QuickTime Player cannot play your MPG file, try installing the legacy version QuickTime Player 7. It supports OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard until 10.11.6 El Capitan. See if this fixes the problem. QuickTime Player 7 also accepts QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes. So, if you have one, just enter it in QuickTime Player to turn on or enable QuickTime Pro functions.
If your MPG file still doesn’t play with QuickTime Player 7, try using VLC media player. This media player supports a wide variety of video formats so it should be able to play your media file. Download VLC for Mac OS X and install it. It supports OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and higher.
