It's a freeware and can work effectively with most PCs. I am afraid it might not work on Linux but its very good on Windows OS.

If you’re looking for a good file shredder to delete and wipe free space in your hard drive, don’t look far. Go to CCleaner Free Download then download and install CCleaner Free. File shredding is included in its basic functions. Wipe free space is enabled by default on drive C but file shredding is disabled. To enable file shredding, launch CCleaner then go to “Options”.
In “Settings”, select “Secure file deletion (Slower)” in “Secure Deletion” then select how you want it done or how many passes you want. You can select between “Simple Overwrite (1 pass)”, “Advanced Overwrite (3 passes)”, “Complex Overwrite (7 passes)”, and “Very Complex Overwrite (35 passes)”. You can also enable “Wipe Alternate Data Streams” and or “Wipe Cluster Tips”.
To wipe the free space, select the drive or drives in “Wipe Free Space drives” where you want free space to be wiped. Remember: when you file shred and wipe free space, no files and folders can be recovered when you run a file recovery software.
