Acronis True Image is used for partitioning hard drives, but it should also be having the functionality of creating an image of your hard drive, and therefore I will suggest that you use it. But in case you need to use an alternative application, I will recommend that you use the R-Drive Image.
R-Drive image will help you in creating of backup copies of the hard drives and duplicates too. You will be able to create a disk image file that contains the exact copy of the hard drive, or in this case the partition C: as you have mentioned. It will allow you to use various compression levels on the fly, and it will not stop your operating system. Once you have created the image you can store it on a removable media such as a CD, pen drives and so forth.
