USB port problem in Mac

Hi,

I began getting this error message a while ago and then it kept popping up.

Because a USB deice was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.

To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.

There were no changes done in my Mac recently and would just use the USB ports normally.

I used the ports for my DLSR camera and iPod.  Do you think the USB ports are now failing?

What shall I do next to get rid of the error message?

Please help.

It looks like one of the devices that you connect to computer using a USB cable, and those are the iPod and the camera as you have mentioned may be consuming a lot of power when you connect to the computer. As you know, these devices will be charged when you connect them to the computer, and that is the reason why they are consuming a lot of power as the error message has indicated.

The remedy for the error will be as follows:

  • Make sure that the USB device you are connecting to the computer is fully charged from an outside source before you connect it to the computer.
  • Make sure the computer is not running on low charge when you connect the USB device to it. You can do that by making sure that the computer is connected to a power source each time you use a USB device.
