My client has a NETGEAR 24-Port 10/100 Rack mount Switch. And I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of upgrading it to a NETGEAR 48-Port 10/100/1000 Smart PoE Switch? The idea is simplified as: Server>>> NETGEAR 10/100 switch>>> Router>>>Internet. Can I plug the server to the NETGEAR 48/100/1000 Switch and another port will go to internet. Can my clients use the software data against the server so the bandwidth will increase in the server or the ports can only be used for trunking switches or the routers?
Upgrading NETGEAR switches for increasing bandwidth
Here are some of the advantages of the Smart PoE Switch that you will have:
You will find that the switch is very ideal when it comes to small to medium home and office environment and it offers improved performance and reliability by utilizing gigabit connectivity. With the gigabit switching capacity, users can be able to take full advantage of existing high-performance, and also use the GB integrated Servers and the computer by significantly improving the way that applications respond and the time that it takes to transfer files.
Another advantage of that switch is its ability to provide Power over Ethernet (POE) so as to power devices such as IP Phones, Wireless Access Points and IP Security Cameras. Hope these will make you want to use the switch.
