If you want to compile a program with your BlackBerry phone, you need first to install Java Development Kit which already includes the Java Runtime Environment that is required to run Java applications and applets. To download these components, you may visit Oracle | Downloads | Java SE Downloads. This package will give you access to the java compiler which the Blackberry JDE requires.
The first step is to install the BlackBerry Java SDK which you can download by visiting BlackBerry Developer | BlackBerry Java 7.1 SDK. In order to run the Java compiler, JDE requires it be in the system path. To do this, right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Then click Advanced tab and then the Environment Variables button. In the system variables, find and select the PATH variable and then click the Edit button. Now at the very end of the string add “;C:Program FilesJavajdk1.x.x_yybin;C:Program FilesResearch In MotionBlackBerry JDE 4.x.xbin” (make sure you have the semi-colon at the beginning but without the double quotes). Click OK all through out.
For the rest of the instructions, you may visit DEV|SUSHI | Discussion on Development in Several Different Flavours.
