Recently I tried to upgrade the Adobe Reader from Adobe Reader 7.07 to 8.0. I was unsuccessful in doing that since, I was not able to remove the previous versions, in order to proceed to the installation of Adobe Reader 8.0
When I tried to remove it through ADD or remove programs, I get a message stating that the Patch is not found. So is there any other way, to remove the Adobe 7.07 version completely?Â
Problem Uninstalling Adobe reader 7.0.7 version
The problem that you are finding is quite a common problem, which has been caused due to the patch files hat that were installed as an update to the Adobe 7.07 version, that you have. The problem may be because of the patch files, address information missing. But this won't affect your Adobe Readers working but when time comes to remove it, there are some chances for some problem to be caused around this as you have said .
For this problem I have two Steps that can be done to clear it off.
As I have said that this is found to be found one of the common problems. Microsoft has provided a utility named as Windows Installer Cleanup utility which can be downloaded by clicking on the link.
Once when you have installed the utility, just select all the patch installed for the Adobe reader and then remove it. After doing this, you should be able to go ahead and install the Adobe Reader 8.0.
If you still have a problem, there is another step which I mean, Step 2, where some times it needs you to remove the patch manually. For manually removing the patch visit www.adobe.com for support. And if the problem still persists even after doing the above mentioned two steps, contact Adobe Reader support.Â
Hope the issue is solved by using the Windows Installer clean up utility, to remove the patch.
