My Operating System is Windows Vista Home Premium. I am having issues whenever I tried to open Internet Explorer. I am getting an error message that says:

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later

Windows Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer cannot download / from help.

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

OK

The message above pops up every time I hit the support link or the help button. I need some help to know why this happened.

You have to download the fix at http://www.chris123nt.com/guides/RTM_Fixes/Fix_Help_and_Support.zip.
This is just a registry file and updates the registry. It re-associates the .xml file type with its default settings. After merging into this registry you have to re-launch HELP and SUPPORT and it will surely work.

This usually happens when the default application assigned for .xml files is replaced with another

If above mentioned solution doesn't works then try this patch http://www.thevista.ru/datas/users/50764-help.rar It will restore default values in your registry.

Last and the most effective method to remove this error:

Open an elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following command:

regsvr32 msxml3.dll

Press ENTER.

Note: To open an elevated Command Prompt window, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

This issue occurs when default application assigned for .xml files is replaced with the other. It generally happens after installing Macromedia Dreamweaver. It is due to wrong .xml files association.

No need to worry. To resolve this issue it is required to make some changes in the Registry.

Let me provide you the way to resolve it.

Open Notepad and paste this text

Windows Registry Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.xml]
@="xmlfile"
"Content Type"="text/xml"
"PerceivedType"="text"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.xmlOpenWithList]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.xmlOpenWithListwinword.exe]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.xmlPersistentHandler]
@="{7E9D8D44-6926-426F-AA2B-217A819A5CCE}"

Save it as FixHelp.reg and save it in a Desktop and then right click it and choose the option 'Merge'.

You may be prompted to continue 'yes' or 'no'. Just click on yes and continue.

I hope this will resolve your issue permanently.

This problem usually happens if content type registry setting for the .xml file is incorrect.

There are two solutions for this problem.

  • First solution is:

Open Command Prompt window, "Start > All programs > accessories > Command Prompt" and write command.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll and press Enter.

  • Second solution is:

Usually what happens when you install Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photo shop, it has taken over as the default editor for XML files on your system by default during the installation.

To fix this problem you have a simple solution.

Download xmlfix_vista.reg. and RUN it. It will update the original registry, Open Help and Support. It will work.

I hope it will help you

Bye.

Thank you so much Usama Khan. I downloaded the registry file from the link you gave and followed all the steps you gave. After the reboot, my browser works perfectly fine now. Many thanks Usama Khan, Smarttechie, and Saadiya.

Thanks TechyV!
