Could Not Recognize FULIST as an Internal or External Command

I have a computer with Windows XP Professional SP3 Operating System. All the DOS programs which I have are stored in C:XEDIT, which includes FULIST.

In AUTOEXEC.NT I edited it to “SET PATH = C:XEDIT.” Since then, every time I run the Command Prompt windows, it says C:Data for example, and enters FULIST, an error pops-up. It says "FULIST is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

After that, I always type “SET PATH = C:XEDIT on the command line for FULIST to work.

And every time I close the command prompt and execute it, I am force to re-type the SET PATH command which is pretty tiring.

How can I have the SET PATH activated permanently every time I boot up Windows XP?

I’d be really grateful if any of you can help me.

Could Not Recognize FULIST as an Internal or External Command

Let me analysis the problem first.

  • You are using the XP service pack3.
  • You have stored all DOS program in C: drive’s XEDIT Folder.
  • This XEDIT folder also has the FULIST.
  • You have changed the Autoexec.nti file (“SET PATH = C:X EDIT”).
  • When the PC boots up, you have to type the mentioned line to run the FULIST manually.

The solutions are:

  • You have to set the PATH’s Environment-Variable as per PC’s user account or as per system.  This variable can be set in the Control Panel’s System Applet. In the System Applet, Click Advance Tab then Click the Environment Variables button.
  • You can also add a path in the Autoexec.bat of C: drive.
