How do you expand the partition size in Windows XP?

What if you delete the backup partition, and then you want to use the free space to add to the main partition, is it possible?

Expand the partition size in Windows XP?

Hello there Buddy!

Windows XP can be resized, expand so that you can freely manage your hard drive. If you have an existing 2 partitions C and D, you can actually delete Local D (assuming this is NOT where you installed your WINXP) and merge it to the existing local C.

But we have to use third party software to do just that, like Partition Magic. This is a third party software that can expand and merge local hard drives for free. After you downloaded the software, by the way Partition Magic is easy to use so just follow the instructions after the installation and you will know how to merge or resize your hard disk. After the download, you have to delete Local D through Disk management.

To go to the Disk Management page, you have to navigate to CONTROL PANEL > ADMIN TOOLS > COMPUTER MANAGEMENT > DISK MANAGEMENT.

After you arrived at the Disk Management Page, at the center you will see your existing 2 partitions, the local C and the local D, right click on the volume that you want to be deleted and choose Delete Volume. Now you have only 1 Volume, that’s where we going to use the Partition Magic.

It will allow the newly deleted Volume to merge to Local C.

Expand the partition size in Windows XP?

To extend the volume of a partition in windows XP, you will need to do that using the disk management utility as follows:

• The first step to use this utility will be to log on to your computer are as administrator or with an account that has administrative privileges.
• With that checked, you will click Start, and then click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
• In the console tree, you will need to click Disk Management., and then you will see the Disk Management window.
• The volumes will appear in a graphical view, and all you will need to do is format the partition that you want to get rid of.
• And then you will locate the partition on just next to it on the left, right click on it and then choose extend volume.
