Hi experts! How to Fix “The application cannot start” Error of Microsoft Visual Studio?

Why is this happening?

Please help! It was just fine a while ago when I was working on my program.

The application cannot start Visual Studio

Reset the settings file. But when you do this, keep in mind that the IDE will go back to its default settings. Thus, customizations will be lost. If you want so save some of these customizations, copy CurrentSettings.vssettings under "%USERPROFILE%DocumentsVisual Studio 2010Settings" to another location.

If you are a non-Express SKU user, here are the steps you should follow:

1. Click Start then choose Run

2. Type "devenv /resetuserdata"

3. The problem is now fixed.

If you are an Express SKU user, follow these:

1. click Start choose Run

2. Type the following based on the SKU installed:

        -if you have Visual Basic Express: "vbexpress /resetuserdata"

        -if you have Visual C# Express: "vcexpress /resetuserdata"

        -if you have Visual C++ Express: "vcexpress /resetuserdata"

         -if you have Visual Wed Developer Express: "vbexpress /resetuserdata"
