Hello there.Â
My desktop has been running slow lately and it sometimes hangs. I'm also having trouble with my HDD.Â
I'm accessing a file then I get a "cannot read file" error. I check the directory and the HDD has vanished.Â
Is there a desktop repair service tool where I can diagnose and repair the problem?
I'm on Windows XP.

Hi Eckel,
Seems like you have a bad sector on your HDD, a desktop repair tool really does not help a lot with this issues. What I can suggest you since you are running Windows XP is to run a check disk on your drive.
This scans your drive and locates any bad sectors and mark them as unusable. The files in the bad sector will be corrupted.
You can do this while in the Windows screen.
Follow these simple steps:
-
Type in CMD in the Run box.
-
Type chkdsk <driveletter>: /f (This depends on the drive you wanted to scan).
If it did not detect any errors try to move the files to another location then move it to an external drive.
