Jumper wireless router for distant and poor signal

Is it possible to use my wireless router as a jumper and connect to an unsecured network which is located a distance and have poor signal strength?

Hi Dorothy,

This may not be possible if the signal you are trying to connect to is poor and located on a distance.

If the connection you are trying to connect to is near and have good signal strength, you can try to use your router as a repeater. But for you to be able to do that, you would need some information from the network’s router like the MAC Id and other configurations needed by your computer to act as a repeater. If you would be able to acquire that information, then yes you could setup the connection with no problem.

I guess to accomplish what you are trying to do you will need to use a custom router firmware. You can read more about a custom router firmware at the following site:

What you will need to do is install the custom router on the router that you are using on your network, and after that you can use the extra features on the router so access the unsecured wireless network within your range. What the router will be doing is to offer the ability to become a wireless repeater or a wireless bridge and therefore it will boost the signal of the wireless network that you are trying to access.
