How do I resize pst files Outlook 2010

Hi guys.  Please help.  I have a large pst file that I want to attach in an email.  The problem is the file is too large.  How do I resize pst files outlook?  I use Microsoft Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 64 bit system.  Do I need a third party app for this?

How do I resize pst files Outlook 2010

To reduce the size of your pst you should follow the steps below:

1.  From outlook, Go to file menu, then click Data file management

2.  Select the data file that you want to compact and then click Settings

3. Click Compact now.

You don't need to reboot your system after doing this exercise.

How do I resize pst files Outlook 2010

Hello, Elsietbrown.

I made some research about your problem on Microsoft Outlook 2010. And I tried it on myself and it is very effective. Just follow the steps on setting your file size.

First thing to do is hold the  "Windows" key icon and press "R" on the keyboard. And type "regedit" on the "Run" text box and press "Enter" to open your registry editor. Or Alternative way to open registry editor is by clicking "Start" and then type "regedit" on the text box. Press "Enter" to open registry editor. 

After opening registry editor, navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftoffice14.0OutlookPST" in the registry. Right-click on the white space and select "New" , then "REG_WORD". After this dialog box will open to create new registry.

In your new registry, type "MaxFileSize" in the dialog window "Name" text box.  In the "Value" text box , enter the maximum size for your PST file. And this will change the PST file settings.

Reboot your computer after you made up all steps. Registry settings will not be take effect until the computer reboots.

Hello,

Here are the steps in resizing a pst files in Outlook 2010:

1. Open Outlook

2. Click File Tab.

3. Click Account Settings and select it.

4. Click Data Files tab, select the pst  and click Settings

5. Click Compact now.
