Hello experts,

How can I view mkv on fedora? Fedora linux operating system is very popular in the industry of operating systems but I am not good in using this one, I need some assistance from you guys. A clear explanation of the proper procedure on how to view mkv on fedora will help me a lot. Thank you.

How can I view mkv on fedora?

Hi Virginia,

In order to view MKV video files, you will need a Media Player with several codecs including MKV. Codecs are file formats that are registered within a player. The best option for your Fedora Linux is VLC Media Player. You can download it for FREE from this link: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-fedora.html

• Download VLC media player and install it.
• Open VLC Media Player.
• Click on File.
• Click Open.
• Select the MKV file you want to play.

How can I view mkv on fedora?

Hi Virginia Adams,

If you want to enable MKV codec on your LINUX OS then you have to enable them with the help commands. To enable codec on your LINUX OS please follow the following steps

1. First of all open your command terminal.You should open this as a root user. To open command terminal as the root user please type "su-" without quotes.

2. After typing above command it will ask you to enter your root password. Type your root password and give the following command.

yum -y localinstall –nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

3. Now you have enabled repo fusion and now type the following command to install the codec

yum -y install gstreamer gstreamer-plugins-good gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly libdvdread libdvdnav lsdvd libdvdcss ffmpeg ffmpeg-libs gstreamer-ffmpeg libmatroska xvidcore xine-lib xine-lib-extras-freeworld xine-plugin .
