I have a problem with my Linux. It cannot detect USB devices nor display them on the LXDE file manager. I guess there is some software that requires to be installed for it to function properly. Please assist me on this.
My Linux does not detect USB devices.
Hello,
Â
You question seems very interesting. First of all, please clarify whether your machine is dual booted. If your Linux machine is running virtually, please let us know the type of main Operating System and its version. Also please explain whether it is using USB dongle for wireless range extending or using WiFi.
Â
Also please find below for your reference.
-
If your Linux machine is booted dually, then hardware is shared with the other operating system. The Linux distro ( open source) therefore becomes secondary to the hardware and USB dongle is required as if this is a hardware.Â
-
If the Linux distro is running virtually, you can allow any specific items by modifying the permission settings.

My Linux does not detect USB devices.
Hello Megan,Â
It would have been easier to get to the problem if you had given more information about the flavor you are using, version number and what have you already done to detect the problem. In Ubuntu linux however, you can use a command called Mount to list all devices mounted on the system. If you only want to detect usb devices you can use command lsusb and it will only list the usb devices. Commands vary from Linux flavor to flavor but the first step in diagnosing the device is to list and see if it is mounted at all.
I hope that helps.
Abe.
