I want to install toad for oracle on Ubuntu 8.04. Seeing that I am not really technically inclined with regards to Operating system, I think I’ll need some help here. Can you provide a step by step guide or a website where I can see detailed guidelines on how to do this?Â

Here I'm going to explain the steps. Hope it helps.
1. You should install a client software based on oracle. You can obtain oracle client from:
2. You will need an oracle user id and password to download, Sign up, it's free. The download file size is pretty large, so you might have to wait. After you have installed the oracle client, find the tnsnames.ora file in the following location:
<ORACLE_HOME>/network/admin
3. Start TOAD and there will be an option on the bottom right to select the correct ORACLE_HOME in case it isn't selected already.
