Here are my top choices for open source webmail client:

Afterlogic (https://afterlogic.com/)

This is a WebMail Lite PHP and is very easy to use. Features include receiving, viewing, composing and sending mail through the web. You can have multiple attachments in an email, create multiple email accounts and has a preview panel.

SquirrelMail (http://squirrelmail.org/)

This open source webmail and is written in PHP. This is an excellent program if you want to customize it. Installation is easy and user friendly.

Hastymail (http://www.hastymail.org/)

This is a secure webmail with client application written in PHP. Themes used here are using CSS and PHP in their templates. It has support for text browser and mobile devices. The interface for sending and receiving email is clean, easy to manipulated because of less complications.

Hastymail works for me.  I've been using it for quite a while now and can't seem to think of any problem.  Excellent program, and has a very good interface.
