How do I open a rar compressed archive file?

Hey everyone,

I have a file on my computer that is a rar compressed archive file. All the information windows has is:

File Extension: .rar.

File Type: Ratcompressed archive file.

How can I open this file type?

How do I open a rar compressed archive file?

Hi Franklin,

Windows can not read rar files without any additional programs. It only opens zip folders after windows has been installed. To read a rar file you need a program like WinRAR, which is not free but it can read many formats and has many additional functions that can be useful for compressing. But if you are looking for a free alternative use 7zip. It is a good free program that can do anything a commercial one can, so you do not need to spend any money for it.
