I used MS Office 2012 and when trying to open a .docx file from My Documents folder, I received an error stating “There was a problem sending the command to the program”.
This error does not show until I opened my document files from within MS Word. By using MS Word 2010, all documents being checked are .docx file forms. After clicking OK button to close the error, MS Word is completely functional. What could be the cause of this error and how can I able to fix it?

Error in opening .docx file with MS Office 2012
Hi there.
This problem can be solved in many ways, but I prefer deleting Word Data registry key. By doing this Word resets several options to their default settings. This is the procedure that you'll have to follow to resolve the problem:
1. Exit all Office programs;
2. Go to Start Menu, click Run, type regedit, and click OK;
3. Locate the following registry subkey according to the version of Word that you have installed, in your example Word 2012:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice14.0WordData; 4. Click Data, and then Export on the file menu; 5. Name the file Wddata.reg, and then save the file to the desktop; 6. Click Delete on the Edit menu, and choose Yes; 7. Close Registry Editor and Start Word. This should fix the error, and it shouldn't trouble you anymore.
Have a nice day.

Error in opening .docx file with MS Office 2012
Hello there,
Here are some things that are important to check first. Depending on which OS you are using, Macintosh, Linux or Window, this can be solved in different ways.
Also it is necessary to know if you have older versions of Microsoft Office installed, and do you just want to view the document, or do you want to edit it. Here is a solution if you are a Windows user: Install the Microsoft compatibility pack for older versions of Office that allows you to handle the .Docs documents.
On the other hand, if you are using Mac or Linux OS, the best approach would be to use any of the online converters that convert .Docs files into .Doc. This is also applicable to Windows users, by downloading Word Viewer application, which is an official Microsoft product. This software will allow you to open and view .Docs document, but not to manipulate them. One, all-round solution for all OS users, is to install the OpenOffice, which is a free, open source program.
OpenXML Translator enables you to open .Docs documents, even if you have the Novell version of OpenOffice. I have to mention though that I am only sure for the Novell version of OpenOffice, I haven't tested it on other OpenOffice versions.
Anyway, this should be enough to solve your problem.
Good luck.
