Hello Experts,

What is all about decrease hard drive speed? Is it possible for the hard drive speed to decrease? I am very interested on this topic for I am finding some software that would probably increase my hard drive speed but then suddenly I thought of this. Can you share your experiences with me?

Hello Lindsay,

Good Day, What do you mean by hard drive speed? The speed of copying/moving files to/from your hard drive? or the hard drive RPM (Rotation per Minute)?

If you mean decreased speed of copying/moving files to/from your hard drive, It could be caused by:

• Over-heating. It can decrease the life of your HD.
• Current temperature. The higher the temperature, the slower it runs.
• Data occupancy. If a hard drive becomes increasing full, it runs slower.

You have to test your hard drive with diagnostic tools/utilities"

What is all about decrease hard drive speed?

Follow the below steps to increase the speed of your computer’s hard drive.

• Click on Start and “SYSEDIT.EXE” type in RUN and press Enter.
• It will show you SYSTEM.INI window. You may have to Scroll down and find a line called [386enh]
• Hit Enter to create a new line and type in Irq14=4096 (note: Irq14=4096 is CASE SENSITIVE).
• Click on the File menu and select save.
• Now close “SYSEDIT” and reboot your computer.

When you open your computer, hopefully hard disk speed will be increased.

Hello Lindsay,

You cannot decrease your Hard drive performance. However it is possible to increase the speed of copying or moving data using a certain mechanisms. The simplest way to increase the copying speed is to install Fast Copy. Technically how it works, i don't know but i have experienced about 10 to 20 percent increase in copying speed.

What is all about decrease hard drive speed?

I don’t know what you are trying to do by decreasing your hard drive speed.  You can achieve this by installing some software which uses your CPU and memory in high percentage. It will definitely slow down your computer performance. Any way personally I do not recommend you to install such software.
