Hi,
I received an error while opening the Microsoft office One Note 2010 file. I can’t open the file. I get this error message –
This section is from a later version of OneNote and cannot be opened.
Your version cannot load this file, but a converter may be available on the Downloads on Office Online Web site.
How can this be resolved.
Please help.
Issue in opening MS Office One Note 2010 files

If this is the first time that this happens, try restarting your computer then try it again. See if you can open the document on the next reboot. But if still not, be sure to check if the file you are opening was created using Microsoft Office OneNote 2010 and you have the same version of Microsoft Office OneNote installed on your computer.
You are receiving this error maybe because you are using Microsoft Office OneNote 2010 and the file you are opening was created using the 2011 version or maybe later. Or maybe it’s the other way around, you are opening a Microsoft Office OneNote 2010 file and the one installed on your computer is the 2007 version or maybe earlier. In Microsoft Office 2010, the applications Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint have the same format and only Microsoft Office OneNote has a little change in its format and maybe this is the reason why you are having this problem. Microsoft Office OneNote 2010 is not backward compatible.
I’m not sure exactly what the version of the file is nor the exact version of Microsoft Office OneNote installed on your computer but to give you an idea, here’s how you can convert OneNote 2007 to 2010 format and vice versa.
Open Microsoft Office OneNote then click the Office Button. Under Info, click Settings then Properties.
Under Notebook Properties window, click Change to 2010 button to convert the format.
Before converting to 2010 format, the OneNote notebooks will be in compatibility mode and both the files still have the extension [.one].
