Technology: The Effects of Technology in Today’s Learning
In today’s generation, technology has a great impact or I would say influence in our learning. It’s not just the classical school based teacher-to-student setting that is applicable nowadays. Although self research through libraries is still a good way to learn but in today’s setting, people are in to home base learning or too busy to go to libraries to research and learn. People prefer to learn fast (although some process requires time to learn) and simply out of hassle.
Teenagers specifically tend into groove with technology and are the ones who utilize technology more often or are very fond of using technology. Not just students use these current technologies but also professional according to their profession are using it.
To begin with, let’s answer the question, “How does technology affect our learning?” This question may be very obvious for us to answer but have we asked ourselves with it? Let’s take a pause and reflect it to ourselves. In my case, I’m an ECE (Electronics and Communications Engineer) which means I must cope up with the current technologies for me to continue my profession thus affecting me with great impact. Not just in my profession but from all the way back in college when I was still studying. We use computers and simulated experiment which indeed is a product of technology and I often think, how about the students way back in time, how did they learn? Without these technologies they must have been experimenting manually.
From our day to day activities we learn by our experiences and having technology part of it, affects the way we learn. From calling your mom or texting friends to having conferences with business associates around the world using communication technology we are able to do what we in earlier times can’t possibly do thus affecting us in a way we might have overlooked. From browsing the net for news to researching and to social media sites, where we gather information in a way learning through what we know is technology is convenient.
As I’ve said earlier that professional also utilize these technology, one great example are doctors. Now the use electronic equipments such as ECG, EEG etc., thus enable them to learn electronics in a way that coincides with medicine.
Designers nowadays use computer aided graphics or software for them to design. These are just some of the many use of technology which in part affects our individual learning. From profession to lessons which in my early elementary days when computer is unavailable to our school, teaching nowadays are being supplemented by technology. From classes online to learning music digitally it’s a very interesting time nowadays to learn. Even music instruments are being made electronically and are now available.
Each of us has our own experiences thus an example of how technology affects our life, the way we live or fashion etc., thus enabling a dynamic form of learning through technology. I remember one of my teachers saying that “life is a never ending process of learning”. As long as we live we learn, and now our learning is affected with technology. Some may say greatly affected some may say not that much and some may not be aware of it but we are affected by the information technology way of learning. For me technology affects our learning today by broadening our capabilities and expanding what we can learn. Not just that technology helps us or makes our life easier but it adds up our capabilities to the extent that our limitation is just our attitude to learn. If you want to learn new things it’s easier nowadays because of this thus technology dynamically affected our way of learning that if we do not learn through new advancements and developments we might end up way behind the past. (Like grandparents or older people whom are being left behind by technologies) It’s a challenge to keep up and be able to learn dynamically. I’ll quote a saying in the movie Meet the Robinsons, “keep moving forward”.
