What’s going on with my windows task manager?
All the menu and the tab menu are hidden only the processes are shown don’t know what to do. I wasn’t able to change to another tab such as the Application tab.
I have been troubleshooting it by myself, but I failed. What would be the reason?
I thought it was the cause by virus or any malware, but my avast scanner doesn’t detect any threat. My computer doesn’t show any error, all the programs seem to work fine. I think I mis-configured something or deleted something.
I have a screenshot of my windows task manager, just take a look at it. Please someone out there help me.
This isn’t really a big deal for me, but I’m just wondering what happened to my windows task manager.
This is the only thing shown in my windows task manager.
What is wrong with my Windows task Manager?
Task Manager: Title Bar, Status Bar, Menu and Tab Menu are missing
Task Manager is one of the Microsoft Windows features where you can view the running process inside your Operating System. You can end or terminate the running process or application using this application. You can also view the status or the history of your CPU usage and the Page File usage history and these performance histories are all located on the Performance tab. And if you are connected to a network you can also view the performance of your network connection on the Networking tab. Windows Task Manager also allows you to run applications or to add new task. Adding new task can be done on the Applications tab. On the Applications tab, you will find a button with “New Task…” label on it. Just click the button and Create New Task window pops-in. On the “Open” input box, just key-in or type the name of the application you want to run. For example you want to run your Notepad application, just type on the “Open” input box the name “notepad” then clicks Ok.
Sometimes explorer doesn’t run normally or sometimes hanged. If this happened, you won’t see a taskbar on your desktop. Just give a “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” key combination on your desktop then select “Task Manager” to run on the next screen or window. Then on the Applications tab click New Task button then type the “explorer.exe” on the “Open” input box.
Some we did something in our windows that we didn’t notice some changes we made; And after we have notice the changes, we often suspicious that our system is infected with a virus. I haven’t encountered any virus infection before that Windows Task Manager will lost its window title as well as the tab menu, the task bar, the status bar and of course the window border. I have encountered virus infection which the virus preventing me to open or to run the Windows Task Manager. This was disabled by the virus using the windows policy.
Fixing is kind of virus attack is not so hard when you have knowledge on Windows Registry editing and Group Policy editing. Oftentimes, when your Windows Task Manager was disabled by a virus, running of registry editor and policy editor is also disabled but some times not. This technique or attack has been needed for the virus programmer to protect his virus program. You can enable your registry editor and your policy editor with the aid of Visual Basic Script or the VBScript. You need to have a little knowledge on registry editing and VBScript programming when it comes to this matter. But nowadays, you may find such code or vbscript on the internet coded by expert programmers allowing us to enable the registry editor. You may also search for a tool with the ability to enable registry editing. You need this even after disinfection of the virus. Most of the virus scanner and removal utility doesn’t repair what the virus was attacked. You need to repair it by your self.
Missing Windows Task Manager’s title bar, status bar, tab menu and border is not a problem. Your Windows Task Manager has two types of views. To change Windows Task Manager view, just double click anywhere outside the list view. Double clicking repeatedly will bring you to the other view of the Windows Task Manager.
Hope that this will ease your worries.

What is wrong with my Windows task Manager?
Windows Task Manager is a task manager application included with the Microsoft Windows NT family of operating systems that provides detailed information about computer performance and running applications, processes and CPU usage, commit charge and memory information, network activity and statistics, logged-in users, and system services. The Task Manager can also be used to set process priorities, processor, forcibly terminate processes, and shut down, restart, hibernate or log off from Windows.
Windows Task Manager was introduced with Windows NT 4.0. Previous versions of Windows NT included the Task List application, which had far fewer features. The task list was capable of listing currently running processes and killing them, or creating a new process. In Windows XP only, a Shutdown menu is also present that allows access to Standby, Hibernate, Turn off, Restart, Log Off and Switch UserWindows
Task Manager has a mode that maximizes the data display by hiding the menu and title bar.
This one below is a Windows Task Manager on normal view, all the menu and title bar present.
The Windows Task Manager you are seeing is on "tiny footprint mode", like this one below:
Just double click somewhere around the empty border and it will return to normal view.
There is no need to worry about security threats and this might have had happen because of accidental double clicking on the empty border of the Windows Task Manager, hence, it switch to tiny footprint mode from normal view.
This actually a toggle – double-click in normal mode and you'll get tiny footprint. Double-Click in tiny footprint and you'll get normal mode.
