I do not understand why this happened after I updated my version of ‘Windows Vista Home Premium’. Windows Defender ‘ was preloaded on the operating system and I could not uninstall it.
Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program’s service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually.
After reinstalling my OS, the system was automatically updated to a service pack and the problem listed above happened after I updated it. Whenever ‘Windows Defender’ was opened, the error would appear immediately. The service was started before that execution, but nothing shown up on the screen. However, later a pop-up appeared. I deactivated the McAfee Antivirus but it did not help any.
I wish to know how I can manually set the update definition for Windows Defender.
I also want to know that all of the applications and software's on the SP2 are updated properly.
This issue keeps occurring.
Please help.
Windows Defender failed to initialize
Hi! I'm Kattyrine,
Your problem is a common occurrence to Windows Defender when it is updated. It usually happens when you update Windows Defender and there are a number of ways you can fix the problem.
Here are two ways you can try,
-
Uninstall Windows Defender: Go to run and type appwiz. Cpl, find Windows Defender there and uninstall it, follow the instruction during the un-installation process. Once uninstalled, you can install it again by visiting this website.
-
Another solution would be this: Now go to start then run and type regsvr32 < filename >, replace the filename with these following file names and press Ok:
wuapi.dll
wuaueng.dll
wucltui.dll
wups.dll
wuweb.dll
atl.dll
softpub.dll
wintrust.dll
initpki.dll
mssip32.dll
Windows Defender failed to initialize
Hi!
The cause of the error message is that the Windows Defender had failed to initialize with error code 0x800106ba when Windows Defender was updated. With this, we need to manually start Windows Defender to fix the problem. Here are the troubleshooting steps to follow:
-
 Go to Start > RUN> services.msc
-
Look for Windows Defender and open it
-
Choose AUTOMATIC under the Startup Type
-
Click on Start under Service Status
-
 Click on APPLY then OK
Then, restart your computer and check for any errors if any. I would also recommend that you run Windows Defender to check for unwanted and malicious files.Â
Windows Defender failed to initialize
Hello Experts,
Thank you for sending so much help.
I just uninstalled it from my computer even though I know it has a role in my computer system.
I will just download it when I will need it. But for now, I will just uninstall temporarily.
