Malfunctioning Internet Camera: Software or Hardware?

I have run into a problem with my web camera.  Upon starting a video call, the camera quality is very good, but it suddenly turns entirely to shades of green with many distortions.  It only happens about 25% of the time, but this problem started after I redownloaded the driver.  Since it's not constant, is the problem more likely a hardware issue starting to act up, or is it possibly the driver causing the trouble?

Specification:

hp60-458DX

Internal Camera: HP Webcam-101

Driver 6.0.6001.18000

Many Thanks!

Hey Teachercito!

The problem is not of your webcam or any hardware. As you said that this problem occur when you download the drivers of your webcam.

What you need to do is to make sure that your drivers of webcam are compatible with your hardware. I recommend you to download the software like Driver Genius, It will help you in updating your latest drivers, which will be compatible with your webcam.

After installing the latest software, reboot your system. After that connect to the webcam, you will not see this problem anymore.

I hope you understand.

Thanks

Hello Teachercito,

Consider these general steps to solve the webcam problems

  • First check your webcams connection to the PC. Check if your USB cable is properly plugged in. Many new laptops have a built-in webcam where this steps does of course not apply.
  • For some computer brands it is required to press a certain key-combination to activate the webcam.

  • Another thing is to check your Device Manager. Check if all hardware related to this issue is recognized and installed properly. Also check whether the drivers are up to date.

Look out for a yellow question mark which will indicate any problem.

  • If in case, a webcam drive is not found, try a program which can do "driver searching" where your PC will be scanned for installed hardware and allows you to fix the issue.

  • Also check the settings of your video call software. These software should have configuration options which you might want to check back. Also If you got multiple video devices, select your webcam device as the source for the webcam.

Hope this will help you!
