I am using the Ubuntu operating system which I installed using the Wubi installer for Windows. I find that the DNS server does not work when I use the internet through Windows after accessing the internet through Ubuntu. This problem occurs everytime I access the internet that way. I am assuming that the DNS server gets reset by Linux. I am connecting through a proxy network. Can you help me get around this issue?

Thanks.

I am now using a 3G Data Card (brand name Huawei) but I used to access the internet using a cable connection through a router (Linksys WRT54G). The problem is my computer is unable to recognize the 3G Data Card and tells me I have no Ethernet connection. Please help me create my wireless network at home. I need to configure my computer or my router to recognize the 3G Data Card. Thanks.

The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) authentication server does not work. This server acts as the Active Directory domain controller as well as a global catalog and it also populates the accounts cache. I did a test connection which is successful on “Start TLS” and on “encrypted.” Is it possible to use LDAP without running into any problem? It does not require any authentication but whenever I enter information in the base DN, I get the following error messages: ‘Filter error or invalid base DN.’ If I delete the base DN, it is possible to save the information.

I know...

I have two networks with the following IP addresses (192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/30) to which my virtual router is connected. I am using the Junos Network Operating System. Is it possible for me to specify the network which should be the traffic source of the system? Here is the situation: the destination of system traffic is 192.168.2.2 and the system traffic from the switches comes from 192.168.2.1.

Can I indicate the traffic source to be 192.168.1.1 which is then made known to all of the enterprise? I would rather not use the a/30 route to get the DHCP Relay working. Can...

I installed the Debian GNU/Linux operating system and ran into a problem after installing. It simply stopped and showed a screen that kept flashing the Debian logo and nothing else. There was no way to enter anything on the keyboard so I used scrolling to look for an error message but found none. I restarted the system and got the following error message:

‘error hd0, msdos5 read error

entering rescue mode  >’

I am curious as to why I’m seeing MS DOS5 when I am installing Linux software? Please advise me on what to do. Thanks.

My connection to the network is in my work profile and not connected to the domain. I recently installed a Windows 2008 server and I want to utilize its Network Discovery feature. I can connect to the Windows 2008 server through my computer’s IP address/name and the Windows firewall has been configured to make an exception for Network Discovery on the public and private networks. Printer sharing and file sharing are enabled so files can be moved from the server and back. Why is Network Discovery not working? What else do I need to do to get it to...

We are using the Microsoft SharePoint web application platform and have recently upgraded to version WSS3.0. We have about 200 SharePoint sites as well as custom web parts and custom lists. After installing version WSS3.0, we restored the 200 SharePoint sites and database information. The custom lists forms, however, are not functioning. I tried to build a new component in the list and blog but SharePoint came up with an “unexpected error” without any other information appearing in the application and SharePoint logs.

As far as I know, feature definitions should be found in the configuration database so I decided...

I acquired a scanner/printer which I have been unable to connect via wireless to my laptop. The scanner/printer is an HP Photosmart B110 wireless. My laptop is a Toshiba with Windows Vista installed on it. The problem I have in setting up the wireless connection with the scanner/printer is that an error message keeps coming up indicating that “MAC address filtering is enabled” and this is what blocks the connection.

How do I get past this problem? Thank you.

The recovery partition in my computer was accidentally removed and no recovery disc was made. I am thinking of restoring my system to the original factory settings. Does anyone know if the recovery partition can be downloaded? If not, I would appreciate any help in creating a recovery partition or in restoring my system to the original factory settings.
