Google has released the new beta version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat. VP of Engineering at Google, Dave Burke said that the new Android 7.1.2 Nougat is intended for an incremental maintenance release which is basically focused on refinements, bug-fixing, and several optimizations, along with some enhancements for the ease of use of the customers.
The Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta version has been rolled out for eligible devices which are listed in Android Beta Program.
Among the devices which are enrolled in the program are Android 7.1 Nougat enabled devices like Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones of Pixel series; and Nexus Player, Nexus 5, and Pixel C devices of Nexus series. These smart phones can be updated to the new launched Android 7.1.2 version.
Dave Burke also said that the company is preparing an update for Nexus 6P model which is going to be released very soon. The Android 7.1.2 Nougat will be made public within few months of the calendar year.
However, Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet has been refrained from the list of eligible devices to receive the new update. The above-mentioned devices were released in the year 2014 and supported Android Beta Program until Android 7.1.1 version Nougat. Although Google will not be providing any major updates for the devices, there will be security fixes available for these devices for a year.
Since the new Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta version update has been made for public use, someone who is interested in trying the new version can do so just by signing in to the Android Beta Program, which will enable them to get the beta update once their devices have been registered to the program. If someone uses a device which is already enrolled in the program, they are ready to use the new Android.
More about Android 7.1.2 Nougat
As confirmed by Burke, the new update will have updated security systems. There will be ‘swipe for notifications’ feature which lets the user swipe across the fingerprint scanner to view app alerts rather than doing so on the screen of the device.
There will be redesigned app shortcut too and improved support for keyboard, along with few other interesting updates.
The new Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta version will allow users to set independent live wallpapers for their lock screen or home screen. The new set of live wallpapers will be either animated or move according to the movement of the device. In previous versions of Android, the user had to put the same live image as the home screen and lock screen wallpaper. But that ends with the launch of Android 7.1.2 Nougat where one can choose different live wallpapers for the lock screen and home screen. Even one can choose a still image for one screen and live image for the other. This update has been welcomed by several Android users. To access the new live wallpapers, users need to long press the home screen and select the wallpaper.
The beta version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat version will come as an 827.9MB update.
